Andhra Pradesh Government has formulated excise policy 2019-20

The Government of Andhra Pradesh vide notification dated 24th August 2019 has formulated the following excise policy 2019-20 in respect of retail liquor shops and taken a decision to run liquor outlets on its own in a gradual, phased introduction of total prohibition in the State.

Following important decisions have been taken:

  1. From October 1, 2019, the Andhra Pradesh Beverages Corporation will run liquor outlets both in urban and rural areas. As a first step to reduce the consumption of alcohol in the State, private individuals or contractors running the shops will have to quit the field by the end of September.
  2. The government will reduce the number of shops (roughly 4,300 private shops at present) to 3,500 government outlets.
  3. Commissioner of Prohibition & Excise shall fix the number of Shops to be established in a Village, Municipality etc having due regard to the requirement, public order, health, safety and other factors as he thinks fit.
  4. Each shop shall be equipped with CC cameras.
  5. The Health, Medical & Family Welfare Department will establish one de-addiction centre in every district. Intensive campaign to educate the public about responsible drinking and the evil effects of irresponsible drinking may be taken up.

The provisions contained in the A.P. Excise (Grant of licence of selling by shop and conditions of licence) Rules 2019, shall govern the establishment and operation of the Shops by the APSBCL.
