Tamil Nadu Motor Transport Workers’ Rules- Draft Amendment

The Labour and Employment Department of Government of Tamil Nadu has proposed draft amendments in Tamil Nadu Motor Transport Workers’ Rules by a notification published in Tamil Nadu Government Gazette dated June 26, 2019.

Previously, the authority to whom application for the registration of an undertaking can be submitted and the authority for the grant of the certificate to an undertaking under the Tamil Nadu Motor Transport Workers, Rules, was the Chief Inspector, but with the latest amendment the authority will be the Assistant Commissioner of Labour, who will exercise powers related to application and grant of certificate under the Rules. Further, with the amendment all the powers under the Rules exercised by the Inspector of Labour will be exercised by Assistant Commissioner of Labour.

The amendment also seeks to substitute Form No. II i.e. certificate of registration.

The draft amendments for Motor Transport Workers’ Rules will be taken into consideration on or after the expiry of six weeks from the date of publication of this notification in the Tamil Nadu Government Gazette. Within the period of six weeks, any objection or suggestion may be made to Government of Tamil Nadu.
