Future Plans: Hyderabad as a Skill Development Hub

The government of Telangana took a significant stride towards transforming ITI colleges into advanced technical skill training centers, termed as Skilling Centers. An agreement was reached between the State Government and Tata Technologies to establish Skilling Centers in 65 government ITI colleges within the state. The Chief Minister of Telangana convened a meeting with Tata Technologies representatives at the Secretariat on Saturday. This Notification was published on 09.03.2024.

State government officials signed the memorandum of understanding (MoU) in the presence of the Chief Minister of Telangana, Deputy Chief Minister, and IT Minister. Additionally, the Chief Secretary, along with representatives from the Employment Training Department and Tata Technologies President, were also in attendance. The Chief Minister emphasized the noticeable gap between the courses offered in educational institutions and the demand for skilled labor in rapidly evolving industries across various sectors. The CM articulated that the initiative for new skill development training aims to bridge this gap and offer courses that lead to increased employment opportunities for the youth. The state government is investing Rs.2700 crores in implementing this project across ITIs. Tata Technologies will be responsible for constructing the necessary workshops, installing machinery and equipment, and appointing tutors to facilitate youth training. Under the project, 9 new long-term and 23 short-term courses will be introduced in ITI institutions. Skill development courses across all fields will be prioritized to ensure enhanced employment prospects for the youth. Admissions will be offered to 9000 individuals annually, with approximately one lakh people undergoing training in short-term courses. The government has also decided to initiate project implementation from the upcoming academic year (2024-25). The CM directed Tata Technologies representatives to ensure workshop readiness for the academic session beginning in October and to recruit an adequate number of tutors. Furthermore, the CM urged the company to focus on campus placements to expedite youth employment post-training and proposed the establishment of a specialized placement cell.

The Deputy Chief Minister and IT Minister affirmed the government’s commitment to positioning Hyderabad as a skill development hub. Plans are underway to establish a Skill University aimed at providing requisite skills to degree and engineering students in the state. The ministers encouraged youth to avail themselves of the new skill development training opportunities and showcase their talents in their respective fields of interest.
