The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued notice on the implementation of Fortified Rice Traceability (FoRTrace) Application. This notice was dated March 8, 2023.
It may be recalled that FSSAI had issued an order dated November 8, 2023 mandating every manufacturer of premix of Fortified Rice Kernel (FRK) and FRK to upload lab test reports for every batch of their production on the FoSCoS portal. The manufacturers were also required to upload the declaration of the source of iron and the blending ratio.
Additionally, the Licence Conditions under the Food Safety and Standards (Licensing and Registration of Food Business) Regulation, 2011 require manufacturers to undertake following:
- Maintain daily records of production, raw material utilization and sales separately
- Ensure clean-in-place systems for regular cleaning of machine & equipment
The FSSAI has now created the FoRTrace Application to address issues of transparency, quality control and traceability. The FoRTrace Application has been seamlessly integrated with Food Safety Compliance System (FoSCoS).
The application aims to create a single platform for all stakeholders engaged in Rice Fortification. This will enable record-keeping in production, raw material utilization and sales and ensure end-to-end traceability within the Rice Fortification value chain.
The application shall have the following salient features:
- Single sign-in facility into FoRTrace portal through FoSCoS portal
- Manufacturers of premix of FRK, FRK, and fortified rice can create multiple sub-users for data entry
- FSSAI’s INFoLNet portal will be integrated with FoRTrace portal to enable access to lab test reports
- Sample testing findings will be disseminated to relevant stakeholders
States/ UTs will instruct FBOs within their jurisdictions to feed data relevant to procurement, production and sales in the FoRTrace portal. They will also direct departments/ authorities to procure from those FBOs who have data available in the FoRTrace portal.
The FSSAI has also made the user manual for FoRTrace portal available.
