The Indian Nursing Council (INC) has issued a notified an increase in the number of sanctioned seats for the B.Sc.(N) Program. This notification was issued on March 6, 2024 based on the recommendations of Expert Committee.

The Expert Committee in its meeting dated June 23rd, 2023 had considered the recommendations received from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) dated July 15, 2023. Now therefore, the INC has decided to amend the Indian Nursing Council (Revised Regulations and Curriculum for B.Sc.
(Nursing) Program) Regulations, 2020
in respect of the number of sanctioned seats as follows:

  • for a institute having a 200 bedded single parent hospital, the maximum number of seats shall be 140. This will be divided as under:
    • General Nursing and Midwifery: 60 seats and
    • B.sc Nursing: 80 seats
    • If only B.Sc Nursing: 140 seats

  • for a institute having a 300 bedded single parent hospital, the maximum number of seats shall be 200. This will be divided as under:
    • General Nursing and Midwifery: 100 seats and
    • B.sc Nursing: 100 seats
    • If only B.Sc Nursing: 200 seats

  • for a institute having a 500 or more bedded single parent hospital, the maximum number of seats shall be 250. This will be divided as under:
    • General Nursing and Midwifery: 100 seats and
    • B.sc Nursing: 150 seats
    • If only B.Sc Nursing: 250 seats

It may be recalled that prior to the above amendment, the number of sanctioned seats was 100 for the B.Sc. (Nursing) program for an institute having a parent Medical College or parent hospital having 300 beds. For an institution with parent hospital having less than 300 beds, a maximum of 60 seats was previously sanctioned for B.Sc. (Nursing) program.

Hence, by the present amendment, the number of sanctioned seats has been greatly enhanced.
