The Labour Commissioner of Assam issued a notification dated 08th February 2024, addressing the revision of Variable Dearness Allowance (VDA) rates for workmen employed by and through contractors, not covered under the Minimum Wages Act, 1948. The VDA rates are adjusted based on the increase in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) from July 2023 to December 2023, which is calculated at 2.69%.
The notification outlines the new VDA rates for different categories of workmen, including Highly Skilled/Accountants, Skilled (ITI Certificate holders or equivalent/clerical), Skilled (other than ITI Certificate holders), Semi-Skilled, and Unskilled workmen. The new rates, are provided in a detailed table, specifying the basic rated amounts, cumulative existing VDA rates, percentage increase, and the new rates per day and per month.
