Chief Minister of Gujarat commended Gujarat for showcasing responsible financial stewardship, underscoring the state’s historically minimal public debt. The financial statements for the fiscal year 2022-23 have been finalized, revealing that Gujarat’s overall debt stands at 15.17 percent of Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP). This represents the lowest debt level in the last decade, positioning Gujarat among the leading three states in the nation with the least debt burden. Despite having the allowance to escalate debt up to 27 percent of GSDP as per Gujarat’s Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management Act, the state administration has upheld its debt at a mere 15.17 percent. In contrast to 21 states where the debt-to-GSDP ratio surpasses 27 percent, Gujarat’s dedication to fiscal prudence establishes a commendable precedent. Emphasizing that Gujarat is now recognized for sports as much as for business, the Chief Minister highlighted the state’s growing proficiency in building sports facilities, and infrastructure and hosting sporting events. A prime demonstration of this competence is showcased in the hosting of the golf tournament at Kensville.
