Government of Delhi introduces Scheme to Empower people with Disabilities

Delhi government has introduced the “Sugamya Sahayak Scheme,” with the objective of empowering individuals with Benchmark Disabilities (PWBDs) by improving their mobility and capabilities. Spearheaded by Delhi’s Minister of Social Welfare, this initiative is a long-awaited program of the government designed to enhance Mobility and Capability, opening doors to newfound independence and prospects for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PWBDs). The scheme is dedicated to delivering resilient and standardized aids and appliances to PWBDs residing in Delhi, aiming to eliminate physical barriers and provide them with access to diverse livelihood opportunities. This groundbreaking initiative is set to make a significant impact on the lives of people with disabilities in the capital city. This Notification was published on 23.01.2024.

The Applicant must be a person with Benchmark Disability (40% or more disability) as per Disability Certificate/UDID card issued by an Authorized Medical Authority under the provisions of the Rights of the persons with Disabilities Act, 2016. Must be a resident of NCT of Delhi. The annual income limit of the family should not be more than 8,00,000. Moreover, individuals applying should not have obtained the identical item through any other program provided by a different State Government, Union Territory Government, Administration, Central Government, or any alternative channel within the preceding three (3) years. Nevertheless, there is no restriction on appliances specifically crafted for children under 12 years of age. It is essential to note that this exemption does not extend to motorized tricycles and wheelchairs. Applicants or their legal guardian must submit a declaration confirming that they have not benefited from a similar advantage, i.e., the same item, through any other initiative offered by any other State/UT, Central authority, or any other source. This ensures that the process is fair and prioritizes those who have not recently received comparable assistance from other schemes.
