The Ministry of Textiles, under the National Technical Textiles Mission (NTTM), is set to host an event titled “Fostering Innovations in Technical Textiles – Hackathon for Unleashing Creativity in Technical Textiles”. This will be part of its BHARAT TEX 2024 initiative. A press release on the hackathon was issued on January 10, 2024.
Scheduled to take place from February 26 to February 29, 2024, the hackathon aims to bring together students, researchers, entrepreneurs, and industry professionals to foster innovation and address real-world challenges in the dynamic field of technical textiles.
Objective and Scope
The primary goal of the hackathon is to create a collaborative platform that raises awareness, stimulates innovation, and encourages the exchange of ideas within the technical textiles sector. The NTTM, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, will be the sponsor and partner for the event, supporting initiatives that contribute to the research, development, and innovation in technical textiles.
Revolutionizing the Textiles Industry
The textiles industry is undergoing a revolutionary transformation by integrating advanced materials and innovations into traditional textiles. NTTM is a flagship scheme of the Government of India, focusing on research, development, and innovation (RD & I), along with education, skill development, and market promotion for technical textiles. The BHARAT TEX 2024 initiative provides a platform to showcase the progress and achievements of significant projects in the technical textiles domain.
Hackathon Phases and Thematic Areas
The hackathon will consist of three phases:
- Ideation,
- Development, and
- Presentation & Judging
Participants will engage in 10 thematic areas, including Smart Textiles, Sustainable Textiles, Medical Textiles, Protective Textiles, Composites, Functional Fabrics, Development of Specialty Fibres, and High-performance Fibers, among others.
Incentives for Participants
Participating in the hackathon offers numerous benefits, including the opportunity to enhance knowledge, build valuable connections, gain recognition, and work on practical applications in technical textiles. The top three winners stand a chance to be considered for funding under the Grant for Research and Entrepreneurship across Aspiring Innovators in Technical Textiles (GREAT). The grant amount may go up to INR 50 lakhs for a maximum period of 18 months, subject to fulfillment of eligibility criteria.
