Coir industry sector is one of the important Agriculture based cottage type industries in the state of Tamil Nadu contributing significantly for creation of livelihood in major coconut growing districts, Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board categorized the ‘Coconut husk retting/de-fibreing/pith processing industry’ under Orange Category on the date of 10.11.2021.
Meanwhile, various associations of Coir Exporters and Manufacturers submitted enormous number of representations to the Tamil Nadu Pollution control Board requesting to protect the Coir sector and their livelihood by withdrawing the Board’s proceeding dated 10.11.2021. Considering that the industry contributes on major factors for Tamil Nadu and to encourage the cottage type MSME sector for the production of ecofriendly products, the Tamil Nadu Pollution control Board withdrawn the Board’s Proceeding dated: 10.11.2021 regarding the categorization of Coconut husk retting/de-fibreing/pith processing under Orange Category.
