The Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) has notified COVID-19 vaccines approved for manufacture for sale or for distribution or use in India. It has notified this list on November 29, 2023.
The CDSCO has approved the following vaccines for manufacture for sale or distribution in the country:
- ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 Corona Virus vaccine Recombinant (COVISHIELD) and
- Whole-Virion Inactivated SARSCoV-2 Vaccine (COVAXIN)
Additionally, it has approved 15 COVID-19 vaccines for Primary vaccination series for Restricted Use in Emergency Situation in the country.
It has now also approved ChAd36-SARS-CoV-S COVID-19 (Chimpanzee Adenovirus Vectored) recombinant COVID19Vaccine (iNCOVACC). This vaccine can be administered intra-nasally.
iNCOVACC was previously approved only for Primary vaccination as Restricted Use in emergencies. It is now also approved for Booster (third) dose vaccination for Restricted Use Emergency Situation in the country.
This brings the total number of approved COVID-19 vaccines for Booster (third) dose vaccination for Restricted Use in Emergencies to 5 vaccines.
