Tamil Nadu Water Resource Department has ordered to release water from vaigai dam from 23.11.2023 to 29.11.2023 for 7 days about 1504 million cubic feet for vaigai native irrigation for Phase 3 area. For phase 2 area native irrigation 619 million cubic feet water to be released from 1.12.2023 to 5.12.2023. This will be for 5 days from vaigai dam. Vaigai Dam is the major dam in this river which is present in Theni district. Vaigai gets major feed from the Periyar Dam in Kerala. Water from the Periyar River in Kerala is diverted into the Vaigai River in Tamil Nadu via a tunnel through the Western Ghats.
Native irrigation area 343 million cubic feet water to be released from 6.12.2023 to 8.12.2023 for 3 days from vaigai dam. As per Government order when vaigai sharing water level reaches 1354 million cubic feet, In the ratio of 2:3:1 water will be released till march 2024 of Phase 1, Phase 2 and Phase 3.when vaigai sharing water level reaches 1354 million cubic feet.
