India and Netherlands Collaborate on Medical Product Regulation

India and Netherlands have signed a Memorandum of Intent (MoI) to collaborate on medical product regulation and improve the quality of healthcare services. The agreement was formalized during a meeting between the Union Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilizers and the Minister of Health, Welfare and Sports of the Kingdom of Netherlands, held in The Hague. A press release was issued on 8th November, 2023.

The Indian delegation was in the Netherlands to participate in the second World Local Production Forum (WLPF) meeting that took place from November 6 to 8, 2023. The World Local Production Platform, initiated by the World Health Organization (WHO), aims to increase access to medicines and other health technologies.

During his visit, the Union Minister also explored collaborations beyond medical regulation. He visited the European Medicines Agency (EMA) and engaged in a discussion with the Director of the Pharmaceuticals and Medical Technology Division, focusing on regulations in the pharmaceutical and medical technology industries.

The Minister further visited the Port of Rotterdam, Europe’s largest port, where discussions with the COO, and other officials revolved around the port’s plans to become a hub for hydrogen production and transportation. He also shared insights into India’s Green Hydrogen Mission and its aspirations to lead in green hydrogen production globally.

In a strategic move, the Minister also visited Bilthoven Biologicals, part of the Cyrus Poonawalla Group, renowned as the world’s largest vaccine producer. This visit underlines India’s commitment to advancing healthcare capabilities on a global scale.

The Memorandum of Intent and the engagements during the visit mark a milestone in the collaboration between India and the Netherlands, showcasing their joint efforts to improve medical product regulation and elevate healthcare services for the benefit of both nations.
