AP Govt. amends Order for Implementation of a 10% reservation for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) in Appointments

The General Administration Department of Andhra Pradesh has issued an order amending the terminology ‘initial appointments’ to ‘direct recruitments’ in the context of the implementation of a 10% reservation for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) in appointments to Posts and Services under the State Government.

As per the guidelines stipulated for providing a 10% reservation for Economically Weaker Sections in initial appointments, certain ambiguities arose during a meeting on Direct Recruitment of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor and Professor in various Universities. It was felt that the term ‘initial appointments’ could be interpreted differently, especially concerning the recruitment of Non-Gazetted Posts and 1st, 2nd, and 3rd level Gazetted posts through direct recruitment.

To address this issue, it was proposed to replace the term ‘initial appointments’ with ‘Direct recruitments’ for clarity and consistency.

Following consultations with the Economically Weaker Sections Welfare, the Government has decided to issue orders amending the phrase ‘initial appointments’ wherever it appears, replacing it with the term ‘Direct recruitments.’
