Jute Price Fixation in Accordance with Calcutta High Court’s Order

The Jute Commissioner has announced the minimum prices for jute in all forms. This notification was published on 17th October, 2023.

The notification is a result of strict compliance with the judgment of the Calcutta High Court dated May 11, 2022, and in accordance with the powers conferred by the Jute and Jute Textiles Control Order, 2016.

The Jute Commissioner has fixed these minimum prices, effective until October 31, 2023, or until further orders, whichever is earlier, to regulate the jute trade in the region. During this period, both buyers and sellers are mandated to adhere to these specified rates. Any deviation from these rates must be reported to the Office of the Jute Commissioner for necessary action, as prescribed under the Jute and Jute Textiles Control Order.

The minimum prices for raw jute for the year 2023-24, categorized as Ex-Mokam and Ex-Kolkata, are as follows:

  • TD-3 (Equivalent to erstwhile TD-5) for both Ex-Mokam and Ex-Kolkata
  • W-3 (Equivalent to erstwhile W-5) for both Ex-Mokam and Ex-Kolkata
  • Tossa: INR 5050 per quintal for Ex-Mokam and INR 5500 per quintal for Ex-Kolkata
  • White: INR 5050 per quintal for Ex-Mokam and INR 5500 per quintal for Ex-Kolkata

Additionally, it’s worth noting that raw jute offered in loose volume will be priced at INR 200 per quintal less than baled jute. Grade differentials for other grades will remain the same as the Minimum Support Price declared by the Jute Commissioner through an Order dated June 5, 2023. Price differentials for other locations, such as Northern, Semi-Northern, Bihar, and other states, will be consistent with market differentials as of October 4, 2023.

The responsibility for any interest, penalties, or other financial obligations arising from delayed payments or any other reasons will remain solely between the purchasers and suppliers and will be in addition to the above-mentioned minimum prices.
