The Central Government has notified the updated composition of the National Assisted Reproductive Technology and Surrogacy Board. This notification was issued on 17th October, 2023.
This change is aimed at enhancing the regulatory framework for Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) and surrogacy in India.
The modification amends the earlier notification dated May 4, 2022. The prior notification listed Dr. N.R. Battu, Joint Secretary and Legislative Counsel, Legislative Department, Ministry of Law and Justice, Govt. of India as one of the ex officio members to the Board.
Now by the present amendment, Diwakar Singh, currently serving as the Joint Secretary and Legislative Counsel in the Legislative Department of the Ministry of Law and Justice, Government of India, has been appointed as a Member, ex officio in the place of Dr. N.R. Battu.
The Assisted Reproductive Technology (Regulation) Act, 2021, and the Surrogacy (Regulation) Act, 2021, have been instrumental in addressing the ethical, legal, and medical aspects of assisted reproduction and surrogacy in India. The Board’s role is to provide guidance and supervision to ensure that these practices are conducted with the utmost transparency, ethics, and care.
