NMC publishes FAQs on UG MSR 2023

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has released a set of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) to provide clarity on the “Guidelines for Establishment of New Medical Institutions, Starting of New Medical Courses, Increase of Seats for Existing Courses, and Assessment and Rating Regulations for Undergraduate Medical Education, 2023 (UG-MSR 2023).” These FAQs were published on 13th September, 2023.

The FAQs explain that the guidelines are applicable to every medical college/institution which comes
under the jurisdiction of NMC and/or wishes to apply for establishment of new medical college or increase in seats for academic session 2024-25 onwards.

All the existing medical colleges shall be eligible for continuing their admissions with permitted/ recognised number of MBBS seats from the academic year 2024-2025 only if they fulfil the requirements mentioned in these guidelines published on 1st August, 2023.

Moreover, after 1st August, 2023, no medical colleges/institutes shall be allowed to increase its admission capacity beyond 150.

These FAQs aim to assist the general public in understanding the new regulations but should not be considered legally binding.
