NMC uncovers Forged Letters Misleading Medical Institute Regarding Seat Increases

The Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) of the National Medical Commission (NMC) has brought to light an incident involving nine forged/fake letters issued to Maharaja Institute of Medical Sciences, Vizianagaram. The NMC issued a public notice on this issued on 11th September, 2023.

The NMC states that the fabricated documents permitted an increase in the number of seats for various medical courses for the academic year 2023-24.

The fraudulent letters falsely claimed to be from the MARB and indicated seat increases as follows:

  1. MS-Orthopaedics: 08 to 16 seats
  2. MS-ENT: 02 to 06 seats
  3. MD-General Medicine: 1.5 to 26 seats
  4. MS-OBG: 10 to 16 seats
  5. MD-Respiratory Medicine: 02 to 05 seats
  6. MS-Ophthalmology: 03 to 06 seats
  7. MD-DVL: 05 to 10 seats
  8. MS-General Surgery: 10 to 26 seats
  9. MD-Paediatrics: 08 to 16 seats

Crucially, the MARB reports that it never received any legitimate applications from the Maharaja Institute of Medical Sciences for seat increases in the mentioned courses for the academic year 2023-24. Consequently, no communication was issued to the college from the MARB or NMC regarding such requests.

The MARB is adamant in clarifying that these letters did not originate from any Member or President associated with the board. They have been unequivocally labeled as “forged/fake” and are devoid of any validity or authority from the Medical Assessment and Rating Board or the National Medical Commission.

In light of these alarming findings, the MARB, in coordination with the NMC, is taking appropriate legal measures to address this fraudulent incident. The public and all concerned parties are urged not to take any actions based on these counterfeit letters.
