Indian Air Force Joins “Ni-kshay Mitra” Scheme in Commitment to TB Elimination

The Indian Air Force (IAF) has announced its active participation in the “Ni-kshay Mitra” scheme, an initiative under the “Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (PMTBMBA).” This initiative, spearheaded by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MoHFW), aims to eliminate Tuberculosis (TB) in India by 2025, five years ahead of the global goal set for 2030.

“Ni-kshay Mitra,” first introduced in 2018, envisions providing additional diagnostic, nutritional, and vocational support to individuals undergoing TB treatment. This support is extended by elected representatives, corporates, organizations, NGOs, and individuals, collectively working to facilitate a successful recovery for those battling TB.

To signify their commitment to this cause, the Indian Air Force organized an event at the Central TB Division, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, in Delhi on August 23, 2023. The IAF team, led by Air Marshal RK Anand VSM, Air Officer-in-charge Administration, officially handed over a contribution of Rs 46 lakhs. This substantial sum was collected through voluntary donations from IAF personnel.

Through this contribution, the Indian Air Force has pledged its support to 765 TB patients currently undergoing treatment in the State of Delhi for a duration of six months. This support will be delivered in the form of food baskets, following the prescribed norms of the Government of India. The implementation of this initiative will be carried out through a government-approved NGO.
