West Bengal Bye-Election: Paid Holiday Mandated for Voters on Poll Day

In anticipation of the upcoming bye-election to the West Bengal Legislative Assembly from the 15 – Dhupguri (SC) Assembly Constituency the Election Commission of India has issued a directive mandating paid holidays for eligible voters. The bye-election is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, 5th September, 2023.

Therefore, all employers, of any businesses, trades, industrial undertakings, and any other establishments in the areas pertaining to the Constituency where the election has been notified, are obligated to grant a paid holiday to their workmen who are registered voters in the said constituency area. This measure is intended to enable these individuals to participate in the electoral process without any hindrance.

Furthermore, the directive extends to daily wage and casual workers, who are also entitled to a holiday on the day of the poll, as well as wages for that day.

Employers in the affected areas are thus instructed to provide a paid holiday on September 5, 2023 (Tuesday) to all categories of workers and employees who are registered voters in the Dhupguri (SC) Assembly Constituency.
