The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has issued an Office Memorandum (OM) on the Green Hydrogen Standard for India. This OM was issued on 18th August, 2023.
The OM states that the Government of India has approved the National Green Hydrogen Mission. For the purposes of the mission and its ensuing policies and programmes the following aspects have been laid down:
Green Hydrogen means hydrogen produced using renewable energy. This includes production through electrolysis or conversion of biomass. Renewable energy also includes electricity generated from renewable sources that are stored in energy storage system or banked with the grid.
A detailed methodology for measurement, reporting, monitoring, onsite verification and certification of green hydrogen and its derivatives shall be specified by MNRE.
The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) will be the Nodal Authority for accreditation of agencies for the monitoring, verification and certification for Green Hydrogen production projects.
