Public Procurement to provide for Purchase Preference for Energy Meters Including Smart Meters

The Ministry of Power (MoP) has issued an order partially modifying its Public Procurement Purchase Preference Order. This modifying order was issued on 3rd July, 2023.

It may be recalled that MoP had issued an order dated 16th November, 2021 stating its purchase preference for public procurement in the power sector. This order enumerated the list of goods and services wherein there is sufficient local capacity and local competition. This list of goods included ‘energy meters excluding smart meters.’ In such cases, only class-I local supplier was entitled to bid for the public procurement.

Now, by the present order, the MoP has amended the prior list to now include ‘energy meters including smart meters’. Hence, class-I local suppliers would be entitled to bid for public procurement for these goods.
