The Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food, and Public Distribution has introduced the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) (Amendment) Rules, 2023. These rules were notified on 5th June, 2023 and come into effect from that date.
These Amendment Rules have revised the implementation date for the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Amendment Rules, 2022. The previous implementation date, which was stated as the 1st day of June 2023, has been extended to the 1st day of July 2023.
The amendment provides stakeholders with an additional month to prepare for compliance with the new rules. This extension in the implementation date acknowledges the need for businesses to make the necessary adjustments in their packaging, labeling, and other relevant processes to align with the updated legal requirements.
