DGFT further revises policy condition for export of Basmati and Non-Basmati Rice to member states of the European Union

The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has revised policy condition for export of Basmati and Non- Basmati Rice to member states of the EU. This notification was issued on 29th May, 2023.

It may be recalled that the DGFT has earlier revised this policy by a notification dated the 17th August, 2022. The export policy condition provided that Certificate of Inspection by Export Inspection Council/ Export Inspection Agency shall be mandatory for export of basmati and non-basmati rice to all European countries (other than UK, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland) with effect from 1st January, 2023.

However, by the present amendment, it has been stated that Certificate of Inspection by Export Inspection Council/ Export Inspection Agency shall not be mandatory for export of basmati and non-basmati rice to all European countries (other than UK, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland) with for a period of 6 months with effect from 29th May, 2023.

Thus, Certificate of Inspection by Export Inspection Council/ Export Inspection Agency shall be mandatory for export of basmati and non-basmati rice to UK, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland. Export of basmati and non-basmati rice to remaining European countries will not require Certificate of Inspection by Export Inspection Council/ Export Inspection Agency from 29th May, 2023 till 29th November, 2023.
