On May 10, 2023, the Chhattisgarh State Government made an important amendment to the Chhattisgarh Factories Rules, 1962. The State Government, exercising its powers under Section 112 of the Factories Act, 1948, has made a significant amendment to the Chhattisgarh Factories Rules, 1962.
The amendment, specified under Notification No. F-10-7/2019/16, involves the omission of Rule 53 regarding the white-washing and color-washing of latrines and urinals in factories.
Previous Rule 53:
White-washing and Color-washing of Latrines and Urinals: Under the previous rule, every factory was required to white-wash or color-wash the walls, ceiling, and partitions of every latrine and urinal. This process had to be repeated at least once every four months. The dates of the white-washing or color-washing had to be recorded in the prescribed Register (Form No. 7). However, the rule exempted latrines and urinals that had glazed tiles or other smooth, polished, impervious surfaces and were washed with suitable detergents and disinfectants at least once every four months.
Amendment and Implications:
With the omission of Rule 53, the requirement for white-washing and color-washing of latrines and urinals in factories is no longer applicable in Chhattisgarh. This amendment acknowledges that the previous rule may have been impractical or outdated, considering the maintenance requirements and advancements in sanitary practices.
It is important to note that even though Rule 53 has been omitted, factories must still adhere to other relevant provisions of the Factories Act, 1948, and Chhattisgarh Factories Rules, 1962, regarding hygiene, cleanliness, and employee welfare.
