New India Literacy Programme

All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) on January 16, 2023, issued a notification regarding the implementation of the New India Literacy Programme (NILP) launched by the Government of India. Students need to be involved as Volunteer Teachers from the next academic session. The students can take on to teach 3-4 non-literates of 15 years and above per year voluntarily toward this end and appropriate credits in the Credit Framework for this activity may be considered. HEls are requested to take the following measures:

(i)All universities with Department/Centres of Adult Education/Continuing Education/Lifelong Learning/Extension may include mandatory teaching of at least 5 or above non-literates by students in every academic year in their course work as a project or assignment for compilation of their degree.

(ii)HEIs may include certain credits for their activity. The credit may be given after the learner under them get ‘a literate certificate.

(iii)A provision for issuing certificates to such volunteers from University/State Government can be made to encourage students.

(iv)Students can be trained by the HEls to carry out the activities as per the guidelines of NILP.
