Central Consumer Protection Authority issues notices against the online sale of acids

The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA), on December 16, 2022, issued notices against the online sale of acids in India in order to safeguard consumer interests. The notices states the following:

  1. CCPA questioned the sale of highly corrosive acids on e-commerce platforms as the availability of hazardous acids can be dangerous and unsafe for consumers and the public at large.
  2. CCPA shall strictly deal as per the provision of the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, In case of any non-compliance by e-commerce platforms.
  3. CCPA aims to protect, promote and enforce the rights of consumers as a class, prevent violation of consumer rights and prevent unfair trade practices.
