The Department of Telecommunications vide circular dated 23 August, 2022 has amended the Unified License (Virtual Network Operator) License Agreement for removing restrictions on telecom connectivity near international border areas. (areas in close proximity of Line of controls).
The requirement to obtain prior approval of the army by the licensee before installation base stations, cell sites or radio transmitters near international border areas. (areas in close proximity of Line of controls) has been removed.
Further, the requirement to undergo periodic surprise checks by the representatives of the army has also been removed.
