The Government of Goa on 28th April 2022, has notified the Draft Goa Legal Metrology (Amendment) Rules, 2021 to further amend the Goa Legal Metrology Rules, 2011 and has invited objections and/or suggestions from the public which shall be forwarded to the Controller of Legal Metrology, ex officio Under Secretary Legal Metrology, Government of Goa, Legal Metrology Bhavan, Next to National Sample Survey Office, Near Air India Colony, Housing Board, P.O. Alto-Porvorim, Porvorim, Bardez, Goa – 403521, within forty five (45) days.
As per the Draft rules, the licensing fee for manufacturers of weights and measures is expected to increase from 500 Rs per year to 10,000 Rs. per year. The fee hike planned for repairers is from 100/- to 2,000/- while for dealers it is from 100/- to 3,000/- annually. For alteration of licence, the proposed fee is 1,000/- from 50/-.
Further the government has also proposed a hike in verification fees for measuring tapes, weighing instruments of high accuracy class and special accuracy both mechanical and electronics class. Fees of all measuring instruments such as clinical thermometer, taxi and auto meters, etc, are also set to increase.
