The Karnataka Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Rules, 2021.

The State Government of Karnataka on 31st October 2021 has published the Karnataka Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Rules, 2021 to further amend the Karnataka Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989

Through this amendment, rule 33 which deals with registering authority has been substituted as follows:

The Registering Authority shall be any Officer appointed or empowered by the Commissioner.

For the purpose of registration of non-transport vehicles and fully built Transport Vehicles on first sale under sub-sections (3), (5) and (6) of section 41 of the Act, a dealer holding valid trade certificate, the Commissioner may empower as Registering Authority subject to such terms and conditions that may be specified from time to time, any person who has sufficient administrative experience and is in the regular employment of the manufacturer of such vehicles or of the authorised dealer of such manufacturer as aforesaid.”

Section 41 of the Motor vehicle Act 1988 notifies how the registration has to be made, in which sub-section 3, 4, and 5 explains about the particulars required to be included in the certificate of registration, it shall also specify the type of the motor vehicle, being a type as the Central Government may, having regard to the design, construction and use of the motor vehicle, by notification in the Official Gazette, specify.
