Odisha State Council for Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy Act, 2019

Odisha Government on 17th July, 2021 notified the Odisha State Council for Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy Act, 2019. The Act provides for the constitution of a council for the purpose of co-ordination and determination of standards of education in the field of occupational therapy and physiotherapy and for the maintenance of a register of occupational therapists and physiotherapists in the State of Odisha. The council will include government representatives and two members, one from occupational therapists and one from physiotherapists who are nominated by the Government.

Every person for the purpose of opening a new or higher course of study or to increase admission capacity must submit an application with scheme to the Government authorities which is then referred to the Council for recommendations. Institutions established immediately before the enactment date of this act shall also should seek the permission within six months of the said date. The Government, after considering the report of inspection by the Council and the scheme submitted, may grant the permission. A letter of permission shall be issued in the name of the institution and a list of institutions whose scheme has been approved, shall, by notification, be published in the Official Gazette. Renewal letter is granted every year after the inspection by the inspecting team. Non-compliance to the provisions attract penalties.
