Latest Drug Alert Lists for February and January

The Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) has released its latest report on the quality assessment of drugs, medical devices, vaccines, and cosmetics. It issued a drug alert list for the month of February 2024. Moreover, CDSCO has also revised its drug alert list for January 2024. CDSCO published both of these alerts on March 20, 2024.

The CDSCO has stated that in the month of February 2024 it received 676 samples and tested 1,167 samples.

Among these samples, it declared 1,018 as standard quality. However, it observed that 58 samples did not possess standard quality. Additionally, CDSCO also identified 2 samples as spurious, but none it did not declare any as misbranded.

Furthermore, in a revised report for January 2024, one specific case stood out. In particular, Sun Pharma Laboratories Ltd. manufactured a batch of Levetiracetam Tablets IP (Levipil 500) with batch number SIE1003A, which CDSCO (North Zone), Ghaziabad drew for testing. CDL, Kolkata tested the product. The batch was manufactured in April 2023 with an expiry date in March 2025.

Upon investigation, authorities discovered that the actual manufacturer, as per the label claim, denied manufacturing the implicated batch. As a result, authorities labeled the product as purportedly spurious pending further investigation.

These reports underscore the importance of stringent quality control measures in the pharmaceutical and healthcare industries to ensure the safety and efficacy of medical products reaching consumers.
