FSSAI directions regarding inspections of FBOs with central licenses

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India through circular dated 8 July, 2021 has issued clarification regarding the inspections of FBOs with central licenses. The following directions are provided:

1. All inspections of FBOs with central licenses shall be carried out by Central Food Safety Officers.
2. The state FSO can inspect FBOs with central licenses only on emergency situations like food safety incidents.
3. In such emergency inspections, after lab report is received, consequential proceedings shall be taken up by central authorities.
