The Ministry of Labour and Employment on 14th June 2021 has notified the Employees’ State Insurance (Central) Amendment Rules, 2021 and has invited objections or suggestions from the public which shall be addressed to Shri Madan Chaurasia, Under Secretary, Ministry of Labour and Employment, Shram Shakti Bhawan, Rafi Marg, New Delhi-110001 (Email ID- madan.c@nic.in) within 30 days.
The Amendment is brought under rule 55 of Employees’ State Insurance (Central) Rules 1950 which deals with Sickness benefit in which it has notified that an Insured woman who is in receipt of maternity benefit and due to reason of which, a shorter contribution period is available to her in the contribution period ending in which the Maternity Benefit falls, she shall be qualified to claim sickness benefit in the corresponding benefit period if the contribution in respect of her were payable for not less than half the number of days available for working in such contribution period.
