Maharashtra Municipal Corporations (Amendment) Act, 2024

The Government of Maharashtra on 18th March, 2024 published the Maharashtra Municipal Corporations (Amendment) Act, 2024. The Amendment Act, seeks to further amend the Maharashtra Municipal Corporations Act, by substituting a proviso related to the number of Councillors to be elected in each ward and the entitlement of voters to cast their votes. 

It states that after the commencement of this Amendment Act, general elections to the Corporations will involve each ward electing, as far as possible, four Councillors, with each voter being entitled to cast the same number of votes as the number of Councillors to be elected in their ward.
