Government of Andhra Pradesh declares mucormycosis as notifiable disease under epidemic diseases Act.

The State Government of Andhra Pradesh vide its notification dated 21st May 2021 has published the Andhra Pradesh Epidemic Diseases (Mucormycosis) Regulations, 2021 which shall remain valid for 1year.

Through this regulation it has declared fungal infection mucormycosis as a notifiable disease under the Epidemic Diseases Act 1897. Mucormycosis is caused by a group of molds called mucormycetes that live throughout the environment, which is primarily affecting COVID-19 recovered patients.

All Health Care facilities shall report each and every suspected or confirmed cases to the health department and shall follow the guidelines for screening, diagnosis and management of mucormycetes issued by the health ministry.
