Amendment to Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Cess Act, 1996: Limitations on Exemption from Construction Costs in Madhya Pradesh

The Government of Madhya Pradesh issued a notification on 15th March, 2024. The notification discusses an amendment to the Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Cess Act, 1996 by the State Government. The amendment introduces provisos related to the exemption from the cost of building and other construction works. 

It specifies that the total amount under the exemption clauses shall not exceed the upper limit of the amount mentioned in the technical sanction of the construction project. Furthermore, it states that the total exemption from the cost of construction shall not exceed three percent of the total technical sanction of the project. 

The notification introduces limitations on the exemption from the cost of construction, emphasizing that the exempted amount must not surpass the upper limit mentioned in the technical sanction of the project. Additionally, it imposes a three percent cap on the total exemption from the cost of construction, ensuring that it does not exceed the total technical sanction of the project. 

The notification is set to be applicable to all construction works from the date of its publication in the Madhya Pradesh Gazette.
