Ministry of Health and family Welfare has formulated a National Policy for Treatment of Rare Diseases (NPTRD) 2021. The new policy is prepared on the basis of the expert committee report and suggests revision of National Policy for Treatment of Rare Diseases (NPTRD) 2017. The new policy seeks to define rare diseases focusing on standardizing objective criteria such as prevalence thresholds and by avoiding qualitative descriptors like severity of the disease.
