Central Government Mandates Aadhaar for National Mission on Edible Oils Scheme

The Central Government has issued a directive requiring eligible beneficiaries to furnish proof of possession of Aadhaar number or undergo Aadhaar authentication to avail benefits under the National Mission on Edible Oils- Oil Palm (NMEO-OP) Scheme. This notification was issued on 18 March, 2024.

Under the new regulations, any eligible beneficiary wishing to benefit from the Scheme must possess an Aadhaar number or apply for Aadhaar enrolment if they haven’t done so already. Beneficiaries who are entitled to obtain Aadhaar as per the provisions of section 3 of the Aadhaar Act may visit any Aadhaar enrolment center listed on the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) website for enrolment.

However, until Aadhaar is assigned, individuals may avail benefits under the Scheme by producing alternative documents such as Aadhaar Enrolment ID slip, along with specified identity documents, subject to verification by designated officers.

To ensure wide awareness and convenience for beneficiaries, the Ministry and its implementing agencies will arrange for extensive publicity through media channels.

In cases where Aadhaar authentication fails due to poor biometrics or other reasons, the Government has introduced exception-handling mechanisms. These include alternative authentication methods such as IRIS scan, Face Authentication, Aadhaar One Time Password (OTP), or Time-based One-Time Password (TOTP), as well as provision for physical Aadhaar letters with verifiable QR codes.

These measures are aimed at facilitating seamless delivery of benefits under the NMEO-OP Scheme, ensuring efficient and hassle-free access for eligible beneficiaries across the country.
