FSSAI issues direction regarding requirement of BIS License while applying for FSSAI License to manufacture packaged drinking water.

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India on 26th March 2021 has issued directions to ensure compliance with the condition of availability of BIS license by the manufactures of PDW & MW and this order shall come into force from 1st April 2021.

FSSAI has decided to make BIS License a pre-condition for issuing FSSAI license and it has laid down the following condition for considering the application for issue of FSSAI License:

FBO will have to mandatorily upload copy of BIS License at the time of applying for new licence for PDW and MVV from FSSAI on the online system of FoSCoS.

After obtaining BIS license, the FBO shall furnish its details in online Annual Return available in FoSCoS.

BIS License shall be a mandatory document while applying for renewal of license.

In the event of closure of rejection of application for license by BIS, the FBO shall inform the concerned licensing authority and the FSSAI application is liable to be rejected.
