The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India through notification dated 18th March , 2021 has issued the Food Safety and Standards (Food Products Standards and Food Additives) Second Amendment Regulations, 2021. The amendment provides following standards to be complied by food manufacturers using Shea butter and Borneo tallow/ Illipe butter:
- Shea butter shall be free from admixture with other oils and fats and free from adulterants, any foreign matter or added colouring substance. It shall be clear on melting;
- Test for argemone oil shall be negative in both Shea butter and Borneo tallow/ Illipe butter.
