Government Launches Incentive Scheme for Electrolyser Manufacturing Tranche

The Indian government has announced the launch of the “Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition (SIGHT) Programme – Component I: Incentive Scheme for Electrolyser Manufacturing Tranche – II” under the National Green Hydrogen Mission. This initiative, with a total outlay of Rs. 4440 crore, is set to span from FY 2025 – 26 to FY 2029 – 30. A notice to this effect was issued on March 16, 2024.

The primary objectives of this programme are manifold, aiming to maximize the indigenous electrolyser manufacturing capacity, achieve a lower levelized cost of hydrogen production, ensure globally competitive performance and quality of products, progressively enhance domestic value addition, and support established and promising technologies in the field.

The implementation methodology of the scheme will adhere to detailed guidelines outlined in the scheme document, ensuring a structured approach towards achieving its objectives.

Funding for the scheme will be met from the budget provisions allocated under the Hydrogen Mission Head.

The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) has been designated as the implementing agency for the programme.

This initiative marks a significant step towards realizing India’s vision of becoming a global leader in green hydrogen technology, fostering innovation, domestic manufacturing, and sustainability in the energy sector.
