Government of Karnataka Publishes Draft Karnataka Renewable Energy Policy 2021-2026.

The Karnataka Renewable Energy Development Limited vide its notification dated 24th February 2021 has drafted the “Karnataka Renewable Energy Policy zo2t-2o26” to deepen the Renewable Energy markets in the state of Karnataka.

The Department has invited comments from all the concerned stakeholders, which shall be submitted to kredlrepolicy@gmail.com, on or before 2nd March 2021.

The policy is applicable to all Solar, Wind, Solar-Wind Hybrid, Energy Storage, Mini and Small-Hydro, Biomass, Waste to Energy projects and new initiatives/pilot projects established in the State of Karnataka during the policy period.

Any individual or company or body corporate or association or society or body of individuals, whether incorporated or not shall be eligible for setting up of RE projects, either for the purpose of captive use and/or for selling of electricity to the Distribution Licensee or Third Party whether or not under the Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) mechanism subject to provisions of this policy and in accordance with The Electricity Act 2003, as amended from time to time.

The objective of the policy is to facilitate development of 20 GW of RE projects with or without energy storage systems in the State, including 2 GW of Rooftop solar PV projects and to attract investment in the RE sector and development of State economy.

This policy shall come into effect from date of issuance and will be valid for a period of five years or till a new policy is announced.
