The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India vide notification dated 19.01.2021 has allowed import and manufacture of food for infants with Inborn Errors of Metabolism(IEM) Conditions. The importers and manufacturers shall submit to FSSAI documents regarding the composition, label and medical uses of such food products.
The FSSAI shall grant a one time permission for import of one consignment upon submission of the documents and the imported food products shall be strictly adhering to the details submitted before FSSAI. The importers/manufacturers shall ensure that these food products are consumed only under supervision of healthcare professionals.
