The Central Government fixes 14th March 2020 as the date on which the Acetone (Quality Control) Order, 2020 will come into force

The Central Government has amended the Acetone (Quality Control) Order, 2020 by revising the date of its effectuation. This revision was made through an amendment Order issued on 9th September 2020.

The Acetone (Quality Control) Order, 2020 was published by the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals. This Order was published on 16th June 2020.

Prior to the present amendment Order, the Acetone Order was set to come into force 91 days after its publication (i.e. 15th September 2020). However, by virtue of the present amendment Order, this date has been extended to 14th March 2021.

The Indian standard prescribes the minimum purity of Acetone. The locally manufactured or imported Acetone shall conform to the Indian standard (IS 170:2004, reaffirmed 2015). It is also required to bear the standard mark under license from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).

However, the Acetone (Quality Control) Order, 2020 does not apply to goods or articles meant for export.
