ESIC proposes to increase the confinement expenses to pregnant women

The Ministry of Labour and Employment in its notification dated 27th July 2020 has notified the draft Employees’ State Insurance (Central) Amendment Rules, 2020 and invites objections or suggestions from any person in respect of the said draft rules within a period of thirty days from the date of notification.

As per the amendment rules, ESIC has proposed to increase Confinement Expenses paid to pregnant women, who are not able to avail maternity services of ESIC dispensaries from Rs 5,000 to Rs 7,500 and the confinement expenses shall be paid for two confinements only.

This increment has been done factoring in the rise in the cost of living index, which has caused a hike in expenditure related to confinement.

Any objections and suggestions on the above draft may be addressed to Shri Madan Chaurasia, Under Secretary, Ministry of Labour and Employment, Shram Shakti Bhawan, Rafi Marg, New Delhi-110001 or through Email.
