ESIC Issues Provision of Prompt Medical Services to ESI beneficiaries at ESIC hospitals during COVID Pandemic

The Employee State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) vide its notification dated June 11, 2020, issued provisions for prompt medical services to ESI patients at all the ESIC hospitals during the COVID-19 pandemic. It was observed that some patients are being referred to empanelled/government Hospital without being provided with emergency/initial line of treatment or proper work-up for COVID in suspected cases by ESI hospitals, thereby adding to the agony of the patient.

To eradicate the negligent behavior towards the ESI patients, the corporation has given out certain guidelines which are to be followed by all the ESIC hospitals and be provided to ESI beneficiaries.

  1. All patients to be provided with emergency/initial line of treatment even if they are suspected/confirmed case of Covid.
  2. The beds are to be provided in the separate isolation wards for all these patients along with all the equipment needed for the treatment.
  3. The hospitals should arrange for the transport of sick patients and should reserve the bed for the patients.
  4. The ambulance and the transport services shall be provided on a 24 hour basis.
