Coal Companies Taking Steps to Mitigate Water Pollution

To prevent water pollution, coal companies are treating pumped-out mine water through sedimentation and conducting regular water quality tests. A substantial amount of treated mine water has been provided for community use over the past five years. Additionally, coal companies are collaborating with state governments to optimize the use of this treated water.

These studies, involving reputed medical colleges and the Tata Memorial Hospital, have consistently concluded that the operation of these plants poses no health risks to the local population.

FSSAI Warns Against Use of Non-Standardized Ingredients in Fruit Juices

The advisory highlights the concern over the use of ingredients like ‘Deionized apple juice concentrate’, which is not permitted under the Food Safety and Standards Regulations. FBOs have been directed to obtain approval for such non-specified food ingredients under the FSS (Approval for Non-Specific Food and Food Ingredients) Regulation, 2017.

Proposed Changes to Power Grid Connectivity Regulations Under Public Review

The draft regulations aim to further streamline the process of connecting to the national power grid for various entities. This includes changes in withdrawal of applications for connectivity or General Network Access (GNA) and treatment of bank guarantees, minimum capacity requirements, Grant of Connectivity to Renewable Energy Generating Stations (REGS) seeking to get connected to transmission network of Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) or other aspects of grid access.

Public Hearing To Discuss Changes To Electricity Grid Code

The CERC has decided to hold a public hearing to discuss the draft of the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (Indian Electricity Grid Code) (First Amendment) Regulations, 2024. This public hearing will be held on August 14, 2024 by video conferencing. The deadline for registering participants to the public hearing is August 12, 2024.
