Applications for Medical Eligibility Certificates Closed/Rejected After Non-compliance with Regulations

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has issued a public notice closing/ rejecting the applications of several applicants seeking eligibility certificates for medical qualifications due to prolonged delays and non-compliance with regulations. This notice was issued on 1st September, 2023.

The issue has arisen as a result of non-submission of requisite documents and clarifications from respective applicants, leading to significant setbacks for the aspiring medical professionals.

In accordance with Section 13(4B) of the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956, it is explicitly stated that any citizen of India who intends to pursue a medical qualification from a foreign medical institution must obtain an eligibility certificate from the Council. Failing to do so can render them ineligible to appear in the required screening test.

However, a significant change occurred on June 5, 2019, when the requirement for an Eligibility Certificate before studying abroad was abolished, with NEET-UG qualification being considered sufficient. Despite this, some applicants listed in Annexure-1 have chosen to study abroad without obtaining the necessary Eligibility Certificate.

To address this situation, a public notice was issued on April 18, 2023, allowing the affected applicants a 30-day window until May 18, 2023, to rectify deficiencies in their applications. Unfortunately, despite the timeline provided, these applicants have failed to fulfill the necessary requirements.

As a consequence of their non-compliance within the stipulated timeframe, their applications have been officially closed or rejected.
