The Government of Karnataka on June 26, 2023 has issued the the Karnataka Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Rules, 2023. This amendment introduces a novel provision that allows for the levy and collection of fines and penalties through an Electronic Enforcement Device (EED), marking a significant step towards digital transformation in the state’s transport sector.

Under the amended rule, in addition to the conventional Check Report (C.R) and Check Report Cum Receipt (C.R.R) issued at the time of levying fines and penalties as per Section 200 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, an authorized officer notified by the State Government now has the authority to employ an Electronic Enforcement Device (EED) to levy and collect fines and penalties seamlessly through e-Challan.
